Last year, it was announced that the official Indian remake of the 2015 Hollywood film, The Intern was in the works. The film revolves around a young and driven entrepreneur (Anne Hathaway) and a 70-year-old retired gentleman (Robert De Niro) who starts a senior internship program under her and how they develop an unlikely and heartwarming friendship. The Indian adaptation was set to star Deepika Padukone alongside the late actor, Rishi Kapoor.

A few days ago, we had written about reports that suggested that Amitabh Bachchan has been approached to step into Rishi Kapoor’s shoes. Today, Deepika took to her Instagram to share the official announcement about Amitabh joining the film. Sharing a poster with hers and Mr. Bachchan’s silhouettes, with their names in bold, DP wrote, “What an absolute honour to be collaborating with one of my most special co-star again!”

This is not the first time Mr. Bachchan and Deepika will be coming together on screen. They have been loved by audiences all over for having played the eccentric and loveable father-daughter duo in Shoojit Sircar‘s Piku. Well, I am super excited for my favourite ‘Piku‘ duo to come together for this heartwarming films, again, one of my favourites!

The intern is presented by Athena and Warner Bros. Pictures (India). It is set to be directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and produced by Sunir Kheterpal and Deepika. It is slated to release in the summer of 2022.

Ayushmann Khurrana, Amitabh Bachchan and Shoojit Sircar on the sets of Gulabo SItabo

When it comes to making films that tug at your heartstrings, make you laugh out loud and play with subtle human emotions, no one can do it better than Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi, amirite? Be it Vicky Donor or Piku, this duo has killed it each time. This time around, they are back with yet another entertainer in the form of Gulabo Sitabo.

Given the nationwide lockdown, the Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer is getting a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime and we couldn’t be more excited about it! The film is releasing on June 12th, and the trailer will be dropping soon. I got a chance to catch the special preview of the trailer and absolutely loved it!

Here’s why I feel you should also be super excited for this trailer:     1. Amitabh and Ayushmann’s camaraderie

Imagine these two absolute powerhouse performers in the same frame, creating magic with their witty, quirky and flawless performances! Enough said. I sure can’t wait to see this very unusual relationship unfold in the film!

      2. The Eccentric Narrative

Given it is a Shoojit Sircar-Juhi Chaturvedi film, you should most definitely expect a very out-of-the-box approach to storytelling that is rooted in Indian sensibilities. It is surely going to be super interesting to see how Amitabh’s relationship with his age-old home and with Ayushmann’s character will play out on screen.

       3. Amitabh Bachchan

How this genius of an actor manages to own every single frame in every film he is in, even at this age, is beyond me! This character is one that I feel will surely be etched in our hearts, much like Bhaskor Da from Piku!

        4. Shoojit Sircar’s Direction

Trust Shoojit Sircar when it comes to taking a subject so out of the ordinary and making it hilariously relatable, no? After Vicky Donor and Piku, we cannot wait to see him weave his magic again with Gulabo Sitabo!
