The Big Bull: Here’s Why You Should Catch This Abhishek Bachchan-Led Drama

One of the most anticipated films of the year, The Big Bull, was announced by the makers last year, and since then, I was super excited for it to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar. For the unversed, The Big Bull is a film that is loosely based on the life and times of the big time, news-making stock market broker — Harshad Mehta. It has Abhishek Bachchan essaying his role. Directed by Kookie Gulati, the film also stars Sohum Shah, Supriya Pathak Shah, Ileana D’ Cruz, Nikita Dutta, Samir Soni, Saurabh Shukla and Mahesh Manjrekar among others.

The film is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from today and here’s why you should catch this film, if you haven’t already:Abhishek BachchanView this post on Instagram

Abhishek Bachchan is an actor who gets into the skin of a character when he takes up any huge role, and this one is no different. Abhishek, as the Big Bull of the stock market, Hemant Shah, has us watching totally invested in his ride to the top (and all the other ups and downs on the way). Abhishek, with his body language, dialect, and that all-knowing smirk, sure does capture the essence of the money-hungry and ambitious stock market broker and manages to keep us hooked to his tale, which is not easy given it lingers over such a grey zone.

Sohum plays Viren Shah, Hemant’s younger brother who is always shadowing him and being the pillar Hemant falls on when he is in trouble. He is the voice of reason behind every move of Hemant and Sohum plays the character with great nuance and earnesty.

For someone like me, who doesn’t have much of an idea about how the stock market functions in a larger level, this film sheds light on how some people like Abhishek’s character, Hemant Shah, made the money they made in the early 90s. The film shows the people, family and emotions behind all the money and success – and all the not-so-happy consequences they face because of it. Ileana’s part, as a financial journalist called Meera, narrates this whole tale in the film, and has also put up a good performance.

The iconic story of ‘The Big Bull’ is put forth well by earnest performances by the entire cast, albeit sometimes falling short on the writing and presentation in places. If you haven’t watched the film yet, this sure can be a great weekend watch!

The Big Bull Actress Nikita Dutta Tests Positive For COVID-19

href=”author/shubanka-sridhar”>Shubanka Sridhar , 07 Apr 2021Nikita Dutta (Source: Instagram | @nikifying)

In the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, we are seeing a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases all over. A lot of our celebrities have also tested positive for the virus in the past few days.

The latest person to test positive is actress Nikita Dutta. The actress gained popularity after she featured in the Shahid Kapoor—Kiara Advani starrer ‘Kabir Singh‘ and the Netflix film ‘Maska’. She is now set to be seen opposite Abhishek Bachchan in The Big Bull.

Apart from The Big Bull, Nikita has also been filming for ‘Rocket Gang‘ opposite Aditya Seal. This is choreographer Bosco Martis‘ directorial debut. Talking to ETimes, Nikita shared that she caught the virus while filming for Rocket Gang.

She says that it is unfortunate because the team has been trying to shoot the film since 2019, but the pandemic pushed it further. In the meantime, both Bosco and Aditya also tested positive. She shares that she has been asked to quarantine for 10 days, post which she will take another test.

She also added that she was planning on flying her mother down to Mumbai from Delhi, but couldn’t due to the travelling concerns. Now, her mother has been rushed to the ICU because of some health complications. As she has now tested positive for the virus, she also cannot go to see her for 10 days at least.

Here’s wishing Nikita a speedy recovery and here’s hoping her mother also feels better very soon!

Deepika Padukone To Reportedly Play The Antagonist In Dhoom 4

href=”author/avya-sharma”>Avya Sharma , 13 Feb 2021Deepika Padukone

The makers of the popular Dhoom franchise are all set for the film’s next instalment. The Dhoom series is famously known for the exotic locations and interesting chase sequences. John Abraham was the villain in Dhoom. While Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra form the fixed cast who played the cops, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan were headlining the film as the antagonist in Dhoom 2 and Dhoom 3 respectively.

Now according to reports, YRF is planning to introduce a female antagonist in the popular franchise. Reports suggest that the makers have approached Deepika Padukone to lead the fourth part of the franchise. The report further added that the super talented actress is quite excited to take up the project, however, before she signs herself in this project, the actress has to sort her dates.

Meanwhile, Deepika is co-producing her next venture, ’83. The sports drama helmed by Kabir Khan will show how India made its way to the Cricket World Cup victory in 1983. Ranveer Singh will be seen as Kapil Dev while Deepika will be playing her wife, Romi Bhatia. She also has Shakun Batra’s untitled romantic drama which will also feature Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday.

Preity Zinta has been spending quarantine with her husband, Gene Goodenough in the US and posts some rather fun videos of her giving her husband a haircut, or some lovely throwback pictures. Well, seems like Preity is using her quarantine in more productive ways than one. She just posted a video of her realising her action film dreams as she just learnt pistol shooting!

Yes, the actress seems like such a pro as she fires away with such confidence and gusto! And she isn’t training under just anybody. She is learning under the guidance of Aaron Kohen, who has trained Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves for his super hit film, John Wick. I mean, that’s quite solid!

She wrote:

A dream does not become reality through magic. It takes sweat, determination, and hard work. So here I am trying to make my Action dream come true. Training hard with the super tough Aaron Kohen. So no one can say that Women cannot do Action in Hindi movies. Hope all the directors are watching.

Advising everyone to do the same, he says that it was good he went to the hospital because his health was monitored round the clock so as to avoid complications. He also assures that there is nothing to be afraid of. his only concern for the 69-year-old actor was his age, but he says he is glad he has passed all the obstacles and is healthy again.

Taking to his social media account today, he thanked the medical heath professionals and the staff of Lilawati Hospital in Mumbai for ‘restoring’ his health back to life and called them ‘angels’.

Here is his tweet:

It came as a shock to many when the Bachchan’s tested positive for the coronavirus. Nobody could understand how the virus reached their home. Especially since everyone close to them got tested and were found negative. It was Amitabh Bachchan who was first tested positive, followed by Abhishek Bachchan and then Aishwarya Rai and Aaradhya. Initially, only Amitabh and Abhishek were shifted to the hospital while Ash and Aaradhya chose to home quarantine.

But after a few days both Ash and Aaradhya were admitted as Ash complained of slight breathlessness. But today we’ve got the good news that both Ash and Aaradhya have been discharged. Abhishek took to inform of the happy news through an official statement.

Abhishek Bachchan Reveals That He Missed Out On Films Because He Didn’t Want To Do Intimate Scenes Anymore

href=”author/pallavi-manoj”>Pallavi Manoj , 29 Jun 2020

Abhishek Bachchan

Abhishek Bachchan completes twenty years in the film industry on the 30th of June. Over the past twenty years, the actor has given us some memorable performances starting from his debut in Refugee. The actor has been reminiscing his 20-year journey in the industry by sharing anecdotes and memories from each of the films he has done. But somewhere down the line, his fans feel that he is yet to get his dues and I guess he feels the same. He took about two years off from the movies to reflect on his craft and came back only in 2018’s Manmarziyaan. And what a comeback it was! Ever since then, the actor says he has been shooting non-stop. He has various new projects ready for release and many more in the pipeline and I can’t wait for them! But the actor recently spoke at length to film critic Rajeev Masand on how some of his decisions after his daughter was born resulted in him losing out on movies. But even then, the actor has no bad blood with any of those people.

On being asked whether his daughter’s birth affected his movie choices in any way, the actor said he made up his mind that he would not do any intimate scenes or scenes that he would have to explain to his daughter in the future. He also revealed that he missed out on a few films because of that. He said he would always tell the makers that he would not do such scenes and gave them the choice to make the decision whether to keep him or not.

Talking about it, he said:

Yes, and that’s fine. No regrets, because I had a creative point of view, and the producer-director have a creative point of view, and they didn’t want to compromise on that and I completely respect that, and it’s perfectly fine.

In the same interview, the actor talked about his debut movie, the night before the release, and the premiere of the same that he had attended.

Abhishek will soon be seen in his first-ever web series – the second season of Breathe Into The Shadows.

20 Years Of Abhishek Bachchan: Here Are His Five Most Memorable Characters

href=”author/shubanka-sridhar”>Shubanka Sridhar , 26 Jun 2020

Abhishek Bachchan in Yuva, Dhoom 3 and Manmarziyaan (Source: Yash Raj Films, IMDb)

Abhishek Bachchan completes 20 years in the film industry. Time surely seems to have flown by, but he has given us some memorable performances in these two decades. In his Instagram, he has started a series called #RoadTo20, where he documents his journey in each of his landmark projects. From his debut in 2000 with Refugee, to Manmarziyaan in 2018, he speaks about his experience working on each film and shares some lovely anecdotes about it.

Now, he is ready to set foot into OTT entertainment with the Amazon Original series, Breathe. While I am super excited for that, here are 5 of his most loved performances that prove he is one of the most under-rated and talented actors we have today.

Looking back at his films, here are 5 of his most memorable roles over two decades:1. Lallan in YuvaAbhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji in a still from Yuva (Source: IMDb)

How can we forget the rugged, abusive Lallan from Mani Ratnam‘s 2004 drama, Yuva! Abhishek had moulded himself into the greedy and impulsive personality so well and stood out in this multi-starrer political drama. It is also one of his most critically acclaimed performances till date, and rightly so!

2.Rakesh/Bunty in Bunty Aur Babli Poster of Bunty Aur Babli (Source: IMDb)

One of the highest-grossing films of 2005, Bunty Aur Babli honestly was one of my most favourite films growing up! Just the super entertaining story, the sizzling chemistry between Abhishek and Rani Mukerji, and the songs won over all our hearts! Abhishek’s conman act in the film was done so well, that you get to see the layers in his character which makes you root for him.

3. ACP Jay Dixit in Dhoom Series Abhishek Bachchan in Dhoom 3 (Source: IMDb, Yash Raj Films)

Who doesn’t love the Dhoom series, amirite? This iconic series since 2004 has redefined action thrillers for us in Bollywood and Abhishek as the very sharp and no-nonsense cop, ACP Jay Dixit, has been a part of it since the beginning. The one who is always on the hunt for the bad guy, his role changed the way relationships between the cop and the bad guy was generally perceived and that’s why people keep going back to this franchise!

4. Guru Bhai in Guru Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Guru (Source: IMDb)

#flashbackfriday On the sets of Guru in October 2006 in Madurai. Mani had decided to shoot the song Tere Bina ( my all time favourite) much after we had finished principle photography. If you look closely during the song I had long hair, which I had grown for my film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. Since this shoot happened in the middle of JBJ's shoot (Shaad, the director of JBJ can never say no to Mani as he used to be Mani's assistant and considers him to be like family, hence adjusted his dates to enable this shoot) I just shaved my beard but obviously couldn't cut my hair. They used to pin up my hair during this shoot to look shorter and match the continuity look of Gurukant Desai. This photo was taken whilst I was seeing the playback of the now famous scene where Guru says the very famous dialogue " जब लोग तुम्हारे ख़िलाफ़ बोलने लगे, समझ लो तरक़्क़ी कर रहे हो।”. Mani, last minute decided to include this scene in the film. So we used to shoot all night for the song, sleep a couple of hours and then shoot this scene in the daytime in the patio of the hotel we were staying at in Madurai. I think it was the Taj. A fun fact. Also seen in this photo is one of my best friends Gaurav. Babu, as I fondly call him had come to visit me and Aishwarya during the shoot as he stays in Chennai. Just as we were about to begin the scene Mani decided he wanted to shoot this scene in OS ( over the shoulder) of the "minister". Since we didn't have an actor on hand, they ( Mani and @dirrajivmenon [also seen in this photo]) literally put a very reluctant Babu into the shot as he was on set watching the shoot and made him into the "minister". I don't think he will ever forgive us for doing that to him and has since never visited any shoot of mine! 😁

Abhishek teamed up with Mani Ratnam for the second time in Guru, which went on to become AB Jr’s highest-grossing films till date. The rag to riches story saw Bachchan portray Gurukant Desai, who through all the stages in his life — from a young and ambitious dreamer to an ageing and ailing billionaire. The actor beautifully owned the role and the film and was widely appreciated for his performance. Also, I loved his sweet chemistry with his now-wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the film!

5. Robbie in Manmarziyaan

Possibly the one time this tornado of an actor was calm and still…. @taapsee you were an absolute pleasure to collaborate with. Your crazy energy has translated so beautifully into Rumi. I don't think anyone would disagree that you were born to play Rumi. The only irreplaceable cast member in the entire film. Thank you for your love, generosity and patience with me. Don't forget @vickykaushal09 and me during your exceptance speeches. 😉 #RoadToManmarziyaan #Manmarziyaan #TakeTwo 📸: @khamkhaphotoartist

Anurag Kashyap’s film about a love triangle showed us how Abhishek can be ever so subtle in his act and deliver a powerful performance. He played Robbie with such empathy and kindness, and was a guy every girl’s family would want for their daughter.

Honestly, it isn’t easy playing both the good guy and the moody guy so well, and Abhishek does it best! Which is your most favourite film of his? Let us know. Congrats on 20 years, Abhishek, can’t wait for all that’s in store for us in the coming times!

Abhishek Bachchan is all set to complete twenty years in Bollywood. He started his career with 2000 film Refugee and the rest, as they say, is history. As a countdown to celebrate his 20 years, he has been sharing anecdotes about each of his projects, and recently he shared a little memory about his film Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai. In the ode to the film, he talks about his relationship with his childhood friend Goldie Behl and how they were thrown out of the sets of the film Pukar that his father, Amitabh Bachchan was acting in and Goldie’s father Ramesh Behl was directing. At 5 years and 6 years, they had got excited about the fake swords on set and went on to play with causing them to break. As you can imagine they were reprimanded and send back to the crew hotel. 19 years later, Goldie Behl and Abhishek collaborated to make the film Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai.
