Do you interact with people who make you want to take a nap, a relaxing hot bath or just a holiday because of how tedious they can be? Technically they aren’t doing anything wrong or bad but something about them is simply exhausting. This particular emotion can leave you feeling confused and guilty because you can see they are good but interacting with them leaves you feeling depleted. On many occasions, you might even think it’s all in your head and that you aren’t being patient enough or kind enough. However, it becomes apparent after a while that you’re dealing with what they call an energy vampire.

An energy vampire is someone who knowingly or unknowingly drains the energy right out of you. They can be friends, lovers, spouses, family members etc. They feed on our need to care and listen to them and will always leave you feeling exhausted. But how do you really know it’s not you and it’s them, amirite? I’ve added a few significant signs on how to spot one and how to deal with them. Once you learn how to identify and respond to this behaviour the easier it will be for you to preserve your energy and protect yourself from the mental, physical and emotional distress they bring.

Here are the signs to keep an eye out for when dealing with an energy vampire:

  • They don’t take responsibility.

It is extremely easy for energy vampires to sneak in and out of trouble by simply turning their charm on. They are manipulative and crafty and are swift to pin the blame on someone else. They just simply won’t accept they are in the wrong and you might just have to digest that.

  • Their energy is nervous and intense.

A person with high energy might be an intense person to be around because they’re constantly on the move and rarely find themselves in a calm moment. Mix in the nervousness and insecurity and you have someone who might just make mountains out of molehills.

  • Energy vampires lack boundaries.

This happens because they can be pushy and have intrusive energy. They ignore all social etiquette and social cues. Essentially they are hard to shake off because they refuse to take no for an answer.

  • They constantly crave attention.

It is evident that an energy vampire needs the limelight. The topic of discussion is always them; you could be in the middle of a conversation with someone else and they’ll pop in and use an example and make it about them and their experience. They are charismatic and their energy will draw you in at first before you begin to notice how badly they need the attention.

  • Energy vampires are always negative.

Energy vampires are never content, there’s always something they feel the need to complain about. And well, looking at the glass half full constantly can well be extremely exhausting. You won’t hear an iota of positivity in their conversation.

  • Drama always surrounds an energy vampires

They are always drowning in the midst of absolute chaos. The reaction they have are dramatic and they somehow expect you to absorb and fix things by simply being friends with them.

  • They are constantly trying to be one step ahead of you.

An energy vampire always wants to do what you’re doing but secretly try and do it better or try to one-up you. They obviously don’t like sharing the spotlight and they struggle to feel genuine happiness for another person.

  • They diminish your problems and play up their own.

It is almost as if they pretend to be your friend with no interest or inclination to hear anything about your life. Even if you start to talk about yourself they will quickly shift the attention of the discussion to them.

  • Energy vampires always act like a martyr.

They always act like they are doing their best but everyone else around them is failing to do their jobs. By doing this they are seeking validation to boost their self-esteem.

  • There’s always an ultimatum or guilt trip with them.

Since they aren’t used to asking no for an answer they will resort to any tactic to get their way. They will guilt trip you to get what they want because they know that shame is a weapon to use against caring people. Ultimatums are another easy way to coerce someone to do something for you and they will resort to that as well.

  • They use your nature to their advantage.

If you are compassionate you are bound to be a victim to an energy vampire. It is because you will offer an ear and an endless reserve of patience to deal with them. You will constantly feel the need to give them the benefit of the doubt and that is because you want to believe they are good.

  • They are incapable of staying calm.

We mentioned their intense and nervous energy so we already know they lack the ability to stay calm. They can go from 0-10 in seconds and have no control over their emotions. This means they are highly reactive in nature and end up not allowing anyone else to relax in their presence either.

  • Energy vampires tend to make excuses.

Emotionally draining individuals have no qualms complaining about their so-called problems and they won’t work towards fixing them either. They seem content with the idea of constantly complaining about the same thing over and over whilst expecting something to change or have a different result.

Why it matters and what you can do?

An energy vampire will demand a lot of energy from the people that they target. And the exhausting effects can drain your energy reserve and will eventually have an obvious effect on your well-being. This might even lead to anxiety, depression and heart problems over time. Ok, let’s break this down further and now in spiritual terms. Energy vibrates through everything in the universe at different frequencies. Emotionally draining people will especially vibrate at a higher frequency and NOT in a good way. Energy vampires vibrate at a frequency that is that’s erratic, anxious and will cancel out any calm in any room. Their energy is infectious and is difficult to not be affected by. This is why it is important to recognize these traits, so you protect your energy by choosing from the following points below.

1) Be clear about your boundaries with an energy vampire.

Setting boundaries is a lot easier said than done; truly understand what you can stand to do and how much time you’re willing to spend with this person. Avoid weekend trips or any other extended events that will need you to share more space with them than you like. If you’re ok with dinner and coffee dates then make sure you set an allocated amount of time and find a way to end it when you really need to leave. If you work with this person, you can try and eat at different times of the day or sit with someone else or just drop by their desk for a quick chat so they don’t feel offended by your behaviour.

2) Adjust your expectations.

When dealing with an energy vampire you will need to fix your expectations when it comes to dealing with them. If you know they aren’t interested in listening to you then avoid sharing anything about your life with them, this way you don’t feel disappointed when your needs aren’t met. And when they begin to complain about their life, stay neutral and simply listen, do not offer any emotional advice. Because you know they won’t take it anyway so don’t try to fix them.

3) Be intentional about how much space they have in your life.

You do not need to answer their every phone call or text. When you have the energy to spare feel free to text them and say you were busy or you were too tired. In time they will realize you have no energy to give them and they have no power to take that they will soon look to another source to fill space.

4) Don’t engage energy vampires.

Don’t feed the conversation by asking more questions. Disconnect with a stone-cold facial reaction when the conversation becomes negative. Don’t give them the response they are seeking. You could keep trying to change the conversation to something lighter.

5) Do not overreact.

This is exactly what they need to thrive and there’s no point in giving them what they want. Remember to stay calm and cool when they are being overly dramatic. If you lose it they will be far worse so think about that.

6) Say No nicely.

You do not have to be unkind when saying no, you can be loving and compassionate and still stand up for what you want. Choose to say No if there is something you don’t wish to do, there is no point in being a doormat and then wondering about why this person continues to drain your energy.

7) Cut them out of your life if you can.

You have to do what’s best for you, if this is a person who isn’t close to you in any way; feel free to exercise your right by cutting them out of your life. You do not owe them or anyone your friendship, time and energy. And if it someone close to you then communicates just about enough for you to get away. You can use technology to your advantage and message them instead of actually speaking with them.

Try to be kind but don’t kill yourself doing it. Follow the points that work above, do your best because some people refuse to accept responsibility for their actions and that isn’t your cross to bear.

8 Simple Everyday Habits You Must Adopt For A Healthy Life

Following a healthy lifestyle may seem like a bit of a task and it is. But I can’t stress enough how rewarding it feels. Leading a healthy life can start with changing the smallest of habits that you and I in today’s day may not even realise we indulge in. Speaking in “today’s” language, when you Instagram how to switch your lifestyle, you may not always get what suits you or your needs. Most of the times, it’ll leave you overwhelmed and confused. That’s precisely what happened to me. So I took another course of action. I started to observe my daily routine, right from the time I wake up to the time I hit snooze and decided to note things that I do wrong. The next step was to eliminate them.

It’s been a couple of months since then and I can safely say, healthy life is addictive and it’s an addiction I’m not scared of. To help you get on this happy path as well, I’ve listed 8 small lifestyle changes you can make on this World Health Day to be happy and healthy.

1. Start your day as early as you can

Back in December, I got diagnosed with thyroid problems so I consulted my gynaecologist and amongst the many things she advised me about, one thing was this—starting your day as early as possible and ending it as early as possible. 7 AM is the best time to wake up, eat and go about your day. For a night owl like me, this was one of the hardest things to do but hey, 61 days later here I am telling you about it. It’s energy-boosting, a motivational push to have a productive day and the most obvious—gives you more time to do more things.

2. Do not hit the snooze button

The temptation to squeeze in those extra 5 minutes of sleep that gradually turn into 10, 20 and 30 may feel heavenly for those few minutes but will leave you feeling drowsy AF. I used to set my alarm for 6 AM so I could snooze almost an hour’s worth of sleep and it did not sit well with me. I felt supremely lethargic and less productive. My eyes were heavy throughout the day. Sound all too familiar? Yep, thought as much. It’s what hitting snooze does. The best thing to avoid this is to wake up the very instance your alarm rings or your natural body time wakes you up at. This will also help you regulate your sleep.

3. Don’t check your phone the first thing when you wake up

You’d be lying if you said it’s not the first thing you do. We’re so madly addicted to checking those notifications the minute we get them, we often forget that time is slipping away. Yes, I’m talking about myself but if the shoe fits, you know what you need to do. By not checking your phone first thing in the morning, you’re letting your own thoughts take over your mind, you’re thinking just about yourself and your day ahead and most importantly, saving time. The moment you spiral into scrolling through those endless number of stories and posts, you let the external world take over your mind before you’ve got the time to think about your own self.

4. Drink at least 2 glasses of water after waking up

Start with one glass if you’re new to this practice and then go to two. I’m definitely not going to give you a lowdown on why you should hydrate because that’s something we’re all well-aware of. But I will tell you that drinking at least two glasses of water in the morning, before brushing, will leave you feeling hella fresh. Try it. But throughout the day, don’t forget to drink 8 glasses of water.

5. Get that 7 AM – 9 AM sunlight

Something about basking in the early morning sun that makes me feel like I am one with nature. But most importantly, it’s your direct source of Vitamin D which strengthens your immune system and helps you get your nice and long beauty sleep.

6. Don’t skip your breakfast

Funny thing is, I used to do this and then actually had the audacity to complain about indigestion problems and acidity. Don’t do it, kids. Why wouldn’t you want to feed yourself first thing in the morning? If you don’t, it’s going to slow down your metabolism and that’s going to cause weight gain and weight gain will lead to a host of other problems, hair loss, headaches and more. So eat your first meal of the day without fail at the right time and eat well. Pro tip: include soaked dry fruits and fruits for more energy in the day and improved health in the long run.

7. Have your meals at appropriate hours

We dump most of the blame on our work for not eating on time but we really need to rethink our priorities. Not eating on time not only has its fair share of physical harms, but it also slows down your productivity rate, makes you foggy and cranky. It’s a no-go in any situation. I agree, for some of us, having a lunch leisurely is an unaffordable luxury but that’s really something to be fixed. Otherwise, it’s not going to benefit you in any way.

8. Never miss a workout

Not going to bore you with what you already know. But I will tell you that if you work out on a daily, it is going to boost your mood, productivity and happy hormones like never before. More than physical, the mental effects of exercising is what got me to make it a part of my daily routine.

The film is all set to star Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan together — essaying the roles originally essayed by Vijay Sethupathi and R. Madhavan. While Hrithik will play a gangster, Saif will play a police officer after him. According to an article by ETimes, Hrithik is all set to start shoot for the film in June.

A source informed that Hrithik is set to start his schedule by June and that he is already prepping for it. But in the month of May, he will be go through a more intensive prep.

The directors of the OG film, Pushkar and Gayathri are set to direct this film as well. The film is still in the pre-production stage, before they can go on floors this June.

On World Health Day, Choreographer Ashley Lobo Talks About Dance and Mental And Physical Health

The Big Bull Actress Nikita Dutta Tests Positive For COVID-19

In the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, we are seeing a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases all over. A lot of our celebrities have also tested positive for the virus in the past few days.

The latest person to test positive is actress Nikita Dutta. The actress gained popularity after she featured in the Shahid Kapoor—Kiara Advani starrer ‘Kabir Singh‘ and the Netflix film ‘Maska’. She is now set to be seen opposite Abhishek Bachchan in The Big Bull.

Apart from The Big Bull, Nikita has also been filming for ‘Rocket Gang‘ opposite Aditya Seal. This is choreographer Bosco Martis‘ directorial debut. Talking to ETimes, Nikita shared that she caught the virus while filming for Rocket Gang.

She says that it is unfortunate because the team has been trying to shoot the film since 2019, but the pandemic pushed it further. In the meantime, both Bosco and Aditya also tested positive. She shares that she has been asked to quarantine for 10 days, post which she will take another test.

She also added that she was planning on flying her mother down to Mumbai from Delhi, but couldn’t due to the travelling concerns. Now, her mother has been rushed to the ICU because of some health complications. As she has now tested positive for the virus, she also cannot go to see her for 10 days at least.

“Lead By Example, What You All Do Definitely Influences People”- Malini Agarwal On Social Responsibility Online

In today’s day and time, influencers and content creators have a fan following of millions. What they do and how they behave creates a huge impact on people. Currently, all of us are in the midst of a terrible pandemic and following all Covid-19 norms is of utmost importance for everyone. However, sadly we see so many people breaking the guidelines and acting against the rules. This will only cause more problems and extended lockdowns! So, on the occasion of #WorldHealthDay, we decided to ask ace influencer, Malini Agarwal about her experience battling Covid-19 and how influencers should maintain social responsibility while creating content online. Let’s face it guys, influencers have a huge impact on people, so they should be socially responsible and encourage everyone to stay fit and healthy during these uncertain times.

1.  What according to you is social responsibility today?

I think now that social media has become our new virtual “reality” we as creators have to conduct ourselves as good role models – much like in the real world. Because the next generation is growing up on a diet of social media, just like generations before grew up on Television and pop culture. The impact is huge and long-lasting.

2. As an influencer, do you feel being socially responsible online is important? If yes, then why?

I think being socially responsible is important both on and offline. We just never made it part of our upbringing when it came to “online” because nobody quite knew what we were getting ourselves into. I think being socially responsible can mean many things, the most important of which is what kind of “influence” do you want to make on people? What kind if influencer do you want to be? If you want to be a “good influence” you have to hold yourself accountable for your social media behaviour and actions and be true to your audience.

3. Malini, could you share your experience on how you combated Covid-19?

We followed all the instructions of self-quarantine, checking our oxygen and temperature regularly, hydrating and loading up on vitamins and most importantly sleep! Luckily, I had a very mild almost asymptomatic case but it is still very important to take care of yourself because the fatigue can be quite overwhelming.

4. How according to you can creators and influencers encourage safety measures through their content?

First and foremost – lead by example. Wear a mask, follow the lockdown rules and regulations and wash your hands! By now we have all the information we need to make intelligent, informed decisions and what you all do will definitely influence the people who follow you. A lot of times people get their latest news and updates from creator handles so it’s important to be accurate, timely and never (even unknowingly) spread false information. Always check your sources.

5. While staying home, physical and mental health is also very important. What should one do to make sure they are happy and healthy even during these uncertain times?

Selfcare is so important, now more than ever. Aside from taking care of your physical body, you need to engage your mind through whatever makes you happy. Reading, watching Netflix, Zoom calls with friends and family. Whatever works for you is the right antidote, there are no wrong answers here. So, doesn’t feel obligated to do something just because other people are doing it, follow your own groove and trust your inside voice.

6. We are aware that you successfully combated Covid-19. In a time like this, how can one make sure their mental health doesn’t deteriorate?

For me, a huge boon was getting a puppy. Mylo is walking, talking, trotting entertainment 24/7! So that has been amazing. Aside from that, watching shows I love, reading, adult colouring books and making puzzles really make me happy! Of course, Zoom calls with friends is another great way to release stress and anxiety. Especially when you can’t see them in person.

7. Lastly, the effect of this pandemic is rampant and it’s true that creators have the capability to influence people to do the right thing. What pointers should a creator keep in mind while posting content online?

Most importantly, spread positivity and good vibes. A lot of people are turning to social media to relieve their lockdown anxiety. Be there for them. Definitely lead by example and show people how responsible you’re being. Fear tends to be a big trigger and very detrimental to everyone’s immunity so spread the word of caution but also how to deal with it if you contract the virus. Many creators and celebrities have been sharing their stories themselves and relating to those who are having the same experience.

Honestly, we completely agree with Malini! During the pandemic and otherwise, influencers hold the responsibility of encouraging responsible behaviour among people. This #WorldHealthDay let’s introspect and behave in a manner that doesn’t negatively affect our health or the health of people around us.
